Dubrovnik Wedding Venues
Dubrovnik is the Adriatic’s most recognisable city, and after 15+ years planning weddings here, we know the photographs capture its appeal. The Old Town is extraordinary: 2 km of medieval walls surround Baroque palaces, Romanesque churches and Renaissance fountains, all built from warm limestone that takes on a golden tone in late-afternoon light. The sea surrounds three sides, while fortresses on the surrounding headlands have survived centuries of sieges and earthquakes. Nearby islands are accessible by a short boat ride and offer green, quiet settings.
Planning a Dubrovnik wedding requires more coordination than photographs suggest. Iconic spaces such as Revelin Fortress, Sponza Palace and Rector’s Palace are managed by the City of Dubrovnik and Dubrovnik Museums and have strict rules: permit timelines of 6–12 months, approved caterers, fixed end times, restrictions on open flames and enforced noise limits. Island venues require boat logistics and weather contingency plans. Hillside estates above Dubrovnik have panoramic views and rules for parking, access and midnight noise. These requirements are part of working in a UNESCO World Heritage site and require a planner familiar with the process.
Our Dubrovnik collection covers multiple venue types: grand fortresses for large celebrations, intimate Old Town palaces for smaller events, private island venues for secluded celebrations, and hillside estates for panoramic views away from the crowds. We have planned weddings at these venues. The descriptions below reflect our experience from actual wedding days.
Fortress Venues
Dubrovnik offers three fortress venues. Some are managed by the City of Dubrovnik under city permits, requiring approved suppliers, fixed end times and at least 12 months’ lead time for high-demand dates. These venues are among the coast’s most dramatic settings and require detailed planning.
Revelin Fortress
Type: Ceremony & Reception | Capacity: 100–500 guests
Revelin is the largest event space within Dubrovnik’s city walls and a commanding venue: a 16th-century fortress at the eastern gate of the Old Town, with a large open terrace overlooking the Old Harbour and sea. At full capacity, it accommodates 500 guests, making it the only Old Town venue suitable for large weddings. Dinner typically takes place on the main terrace, while the fortress interior hosts bars and dancing after dark.
St. Lawrence Fortress (Lovrijenac)
Type: Ceremony & Reception | Capacity: 50–300 guests
St. Lawrence Fortress — Lovrijenac — stands on a 37-metre rock outside the western city walls, above the sea, overlooking the city walls and Old Harbour. It is a theatrical setting: enclosed on three sides by fortress walls and open on the fourth to the Adriatic. Ceremonies take place on the upper terrace as the sun sets behind the Elafiti Islands.
The venue suits couples seeking a cinematic setting who are comfortable with its operational constraints. Access is limited to a steep stone staircase with no vehicle access, so catering and décor must be carried from below. Weather contingency is essential. The setting works best when its dramatic character is embraced rather than softened.
Bokar Fortress
Type: Ceremony | Capacity: 2–30 guests
Bokar is the smallest of Dubrovnik’s fortress venues: an intimate circular tower on the western walls, used mainly for ceremonies rather than receptions. For couples eloping or marrying with a small group of close family, it offers a fortress setting without the scale or permitting complexity of Revelin or Lovrijenac. It stands above the sea, facing west, making it a strong sunset ceremony setting. After a Bokar ceremony, couples typically transfer to a larger Old Town or hillside venue for dinner.
Old Town Palace Venues & Interiors
Palace and institutional venues within the Old Town walls are managed by Dubrovnik Museums and the City, requiring compliance with museum protocols, approved suppliers, strict décor and lighting requirements, and a permitting process separate from the venue booking. In return, couples have access to historic interiors that are difficult to replicate.
Sponza Palace
Type: Ceremony & Reception | Capacity: 2–150 guests
Sponza Palace is an architecturally distinguished venue in Dubrovnik’s Old Town, a 16th-century building combining Gothic and Renaissance styles. It houses the Dubrovnik State Archives, making it a working historic institution and event space. The open-air inner courtyard hosts ceremonies and dinners.
With capacity for 150 guests, it suits medium-sized celebrations, while groups of 30–60 suit the space particularly well. Originally a customs house and trading hall rather than a ballroom, its human scale lends itself to intimate receptions. The architecture provides the visual character, reducing the need for additional decoration.
Rector's Palace
Type: Ceremony & Reception | Capacity: 2–80 guests
The Rector’s Palace was the seat of the Dubrovnik Republic’s government for centuries. The Gothic-Renaissance building features a colonnaded ground-floor loggia, an inner atrium and detailed stone craftsmanship. It now operates as a museum, requiring approved suppliers and strict protocols for décor and lighting. Ceremonies are formal and suited to the historic setting.
The venue suits smaller, refined celebrations, with 30–60 guests fitting the atrium well. For couples prioritising the setting over guest count, it is a distinguished indoor venue in Dubrovnik’s Old Town.
Arsenal Restaurant
Type: Ceremony & Reception | Capacity: 50–150 guests
The Arsenal stands within the Old Town walls beside the Old Harbour, a large vaulted stone space originally used as the city’s naval arsenal for building and storing galleys. It is now a restaurant and event venue with a harbour-facing terrace.
The venue suits couples seeking 50–150 guests within the Old Town, with the flexibility of a working restaurant rather than a heritage permitting process. The terrace places dinner above the harbour with direct water views, while the vaulted interior accommodates receptions and dancing.
Lazareti
Type: Ceremony & Reception | Capacity: 2–80 guests
Lazareti comprises 16th-century stone buildings that served as Dubrovnik’s quarantine station, where merchants and travellers from the East were quarantined before entering the city during plague outbreaks. Located outside Ploče Gate at the eastern end of the Old Town, the buildings now contain cultural spaces and an event venue.
The irregular stone architecture differs from the formal interiors of the palaces, giving the venue a raw, unconventional character suited to couples seeking a less formal setting. Near the sea and within walking distance of the Old Town, Lazareti sits outside the city walls, with fewer restrictions.
Island Venues
Three distinctive Dubrovnik venues are located on islands accessible by boat: Lokrum, a 10-minute ride from the Old Harbour; Koločep, 30 minutes south; and Lopud, 45 minutes away. Each requires coordinated boat logistics for guests and supplies and offers genuine separation from the city, creating a secluded wedding experience distinct from mainland venues.
Lokrum Island
Type: Ceremony & Reception | Capacity: 2–200 guests
Lokrum is a protected nature reserve a 10-minute boat ride from Dubrovnik’s Old Port, uninhabited except for peacocks, with no cars, hotel or permanent infrastructure. It features botanical gardens among Croatia’s oldest, an 11th-century Benedictine monastery, a saltwater lake, sea-view lawn, olive grove and garden ruins.
The island is publicly accessible by day via tourist ferry; weddings take place in the evening after the last public departure, creating exclusive use without a private-island-use permit. Catering, furniture, bar, lighting and décor arrive by private boat and are removed that evening. The logistics are complex and require experienced coordination, but they distinguish Lokrum from other venues in the Dubrovnik collection.
Villa Rose, Koločep Island
Type: Ceremony & Reception | Capacity: 30–140 guests
Koločep is the closest of the Elafiti Islands, 30 minutes by ferry from Dubrovnik’s Gruž Harbour, and the smallest and quietest of the three. Villa Rose is a private estate with sea-facing gardens and terraces. It suits couples seeking island exclusivity without Lokrum’s operational complexity or Lopud’s longer crossing.
Guest transfers from Dubrovnik are direct, and the island is car-free, giving guests a pedestrian setting for the day. The venue suits medium-sized celebrations of 40–120 guests.
Lopud Monastery 1483
Type: Ceremony & Reception | Capacity: 2–100 guests
The Franciscan monastery on Lopud dates to 1483 and stands in a sheltered bay at the island’s northern end, a 45-minute ferry ride from Dubrovnik. The venue features a cloister garden with orange trees and a Renaissance church and is used for both ceremonies and receptions.
Lopud is the largest of the Elafiti Islands and offers convenient options for extended stays. Several small hotels and villas line the waterfront, while the car-free main beach, Šunj, is a 20-minute walk across the island.
For couples seeking a historic, remote setting with guests staying for a weekend, Lopud Monastery is a distinctive coastal venue.
Hillside Estates & Out-of-Town Venues
For couples seeking the Dubrovnik region without the permitting complexity of the historic city, these estates and valley venues offer greater operational freedom and flexibility around catering, music, guest capacity and event timing. They range from hillside venues above the city walls to quiet wine estates on the Pelješac Peninsula, 90 minutes down the coast.
Višnjica
Type: Ceremony & Reception | Capacity: 2–400 guests
Višnjica stands 200 metres above the Adriatic on the hillside south of Dubrovnik, with panoramic views of the city walls, Old Town and sea. It is a purpose-designed event space rather than a historic monument, with a large outdoor platform, 360-square-metre tented area, wooden dance floor and capacity for celebrations of up to 400 guests.
Its operational flexibility makes it suitable for couples seeking the Dubrovnik skyline as a backdrop with guest numbers or music programmes not permitted at Old Town venues. The access road requires transport coordination for guests, and the midnight noise restriction should be incorporated into the programme.
Villa Banac, Cavtat
Type: Ceremony & Reception | Capacity: 2–200 guests
Villa Banac is a historic early-20th-century villa on the waterfront of Cavtat Bay, in the coastal town of Cavtat south of Dubrovnik. It is 20 minutes from Dubrovnik Airport, making it a practical arrival point for weddings in the region.
The grounds feature gardens and terraced outdoor spaces overlooking the sea and Cavtat Bay. The venue accommodates up to 200 guests for garden ceremonies and receptions, with an on-site marquee available as a weather backup. Music is permitted until midnight on the terrace.
Cavtat offers hotels and boutique accommodation, making it suitable as a self-contained base for wedding guests without requiring them to stay in Dubrovnik.
Korta Katarina, Pelješac
Type: Ceremony & Reception | Capacity: up to 50 guests
Korta Katarina is a winery and villa on Croatia’s Pelješac Peninsula, approximately 1.5 hours by car from Dubrovnik. Located on a hillside above the Adriatic, the property features vineyard terraces, panoramic sea views and accommodation for guests. Wine is produced on site, and private hire of the estate is required for weddings.
The venue suits celebrations of up to 100 guests where food, wine and setting are priorities, particularly when guests stay on or near the estate rather than commute from Dubrovnik. Music is permitted until midnight on the terrace, and a marquee is available to hire as a weather backup.
Koračeva Kuća, Konavle
Type: Ceremony & Reception | Capacity: 2–100 guests
Koračeva Kuća is a traditional stone estate in the Konavle Valley, 30 minutes south of Dubrovnik toward the Montenegro border. Konavle is Dubrovnik’s agricultural hinterland, with vineyards, olive groves and a river valley away from the coast. The estate reflects this landscape through stone walls, a mature garden and village character.
It suits small, intimate weddings for couples seeking a venue rooted in the Dubrovnik region outside the city.
Hotels & Waterfront Restaurant Venues
Dubrovnik’s hotel and waterfront venues exchange monument character for operational reliability. They operate as full-service hospitality venues with in-house catering, no separate permitting process and indoor backup options. They suit weddings where guest comfort, logistical ease or larger capacity is a priority.
Port 22
Type: Ceremony & Reception | Capacity: 2–140 guests
Port 22 is a contemporary restaurant at Dubrovnik Marina, with a large sea-facing terrace and indoor event spaces suitable for ceremonies and dinners. It is more flexible and less formal than historic venues, operating as a full-service restaurant without a separate permitting process and with experience hosting weddings.
Direct water views and the Dubrovnik Old Town across the bay provide a distinctive setting. Its nautical marina character differs from the city’s fortresses and palaces. Port 22 suits couples seeking Dubrovnik’s setting with lower operational complexity or a reliable indoor/outdoor venue.
Spinaker Restaurant, Hotel Croatia
Type: Reception | Capacity: 20–100 guests
The Spinaker is located within Hotel Croatia in Cavtat, 20 minutes south of Dubrovnik Airport, on a peninsula above the bay. Cavtat is 20 minutes south of Dubrovnik’s Old Town and 10 minutes from Dubrovnik Airport, providing a convenient airport-to-venue option for arriving guests.
Cavtat offers a quieter alternative to Dubrovnik, with easier parking, quieter streets and a hotel complex with varied accommodation for groups staying together.
Hotel Royal Neptun Terrace
Type: Reception | Capacity: 10–80 guests
The Royal Neptun terrace is located on the waterfront in Dubrovnik’s Lapad area, overlooking the bay. This mid-size venue suits smaller receptions prioritising sea views, hotel service and straightforward logistics over a landmark setting. It is suited to elopements and intimate weddings of 20–50 guests.
Vala Beach, Hotel Palace
Type: Ceremony & Reception | Capacity: 10–150 guests
Vala Beach is the private beach club at Hotel Palace in Dubrovnik’s Lapad Peninsula. It combines indoor hotel event space with a beachfront terrace and direct sea access.
The beach setting offers a more relaxed coastal atmosphere than historic venues. It suits couples seeking direct access to the Adriatic rather than distant sea views, with space for guests to swim, relax and move freely during the day.
Vala Beach suits full-day weddings combining an afternoon ceremony, beach reception and evening dinner.
Intimate & Ceremony Venues
Several venues suit elopements, micro-weddings and ceremony-only events: a clifftop chapel above the sea, a boutique palace residence and a museum terrace. These venues work well paired with dinner elsewhere, such as a city restaurant, private boat or larger venue.
Palace Natali
Type: Ceremony & Reception | Capacity: 10–50 guests
Palace Natali is a boutique residence in the Dubrovnik area, suited to intimate weddings where venue character and a small guest list matter more than scale. It suits elopements and micro-weddings for couples seeking privacy, character and a personal setting over a grand venue.
Park Orsula Chapel
Type: Ceremony only | Capacity: 2–15 guests
The Chapel of St Orsula stands in Orsula Park on the cliffs south of Dubrovnik, with an open terrace above the sea and views of the Elafiti Islands. It is used only for ceremonies, including elopements and micro-weddings of up to 10 guests, followed by dinner at a nearby or city venue.
The park setting, sea views and intimate scale make it a romantic ceremony location for couples seeking privacy and views rather than a monument setting.
Bunić-Kaboga Villa
Type: Ceremony & Reception | Capacity: up to 100 guests
Bunić-Kaboga Summer Villa stands in Batahovina at the Ombla River confluence, outside the Old Town and accessible by road. Built between 1520 and 1540, it is a significant example of Dubrovnik’s Gothic-Renaissance rural architecture and among Croatia’s 20 most important cultural monuments.
The complex includes a portico, loggia, boathouse, Mediterranean gardens and the Chapel of St. Bernard, built in 1538 and attributed to Korčulan architect Petar Andrijić. This makes it one of few Dubrovnik-region venues with an on-site chapel for religious ceremonies.
Museum of Modern Art
Type: Ceremony & Reception | Capacity: 2–200 guests
The Museum of Modern Art is housed in a grand villa above the Ploče neighbourhood, on the residential hillside east of the Old Town. It combines a formal museum interior with an outdoor terrace overlooking the city and sea.
As a cultural venue, it is subject to the permit conditions of Dubrovnik’s museum spaces. It suits couples seeking capacity for up to 200 guests in a setting with cultural character rather than a purpose-built event space.
Getting to Dubrovnik
Dubrovnik Airport (DBV) is in Čilipi, 22 kilometres south of Dubrovnik, with direct flights from London Heathrow, Gatwick, Stansted, Manchester, Birmingham, Bristol, Edinburgh, Amsterdam, Frankfurt, Munich, Zürich and other major European cities. Flights operate from April through October, with May, June and September offering the best availability and lowest fares.
The airport-to-Old Town transfer takes 30–45 minutes by taxi or private transfer and can take longer during peak summer because of coastal-road congestion. We coordinate guest transfers for groups arriving on multiple flights; advance planning is recommended for international weddings.
Private vehicles cannot enter the Old Town, and city parking is limited and expensive. Most guests should stay within walking distance of the Old Town and use the city shuttle rather than hire cars. For island and hillside venues, we arrange group transfers for the wedding day.
Gruž ferry terminal, 3 kilometres from the Old Town, connects Dubrovnik with the Elafiti Islands: Koločep (30 min), Lopud (45 min) and Šipan (1 hr 15 min), as well as Split, Hvar and other Dalmatian destinations by catamaran and car ferry. For weddings at Lopud Monastery or Koločep’s Villa Rose, we organise private boat charters instead of scheduled ferries, providing control over timing and group management.

FAQ –Dubrovnik Wedding Venues
Can we have a legal wedding inside Dubrovnik's Old Town?
Yes.
Civil ceremonies for foreign couples can take place at several Old Town venues, including Sponza Palace and Rector’s Palace, with prior coordination with the Dubrovnik Registry Office. Required documents are standard across Croatia: birth certificates, proof of marital status and valid passports, with requirements varying by nationality.
We manage the legal process, including Registry Office coordination, approved translations and the venue permit application. Allow at least six months for a heritage-venue permit; 12 months is advisable for the most in-demand spaces.
How far in advance do Dubrovnik's fortress venues need to be booked?
Revelin and St. Lawrence Fortress, the two largest fortress venues, typically require booking 12–18 months in advance for peak-season Saturdays. The permit process for City of Dubrovnik-managed spaces runs independently of the venue booking and takes several months.
We begin both processes in parallel when the date is confirmed. For couples enquiring within six months of the preferred date, high-demand fortress dates are likely to be unavailable; however, excellent alternatives remain available at shorter notice.
Is July or August a good time for a Dubrovnik wedding?
July and August in Dubrovnik are hot, regularly exceeding 35°C, very busy with cruise-ship visitors and tourists in the Old Town, and the most expensive period for flights and hotels. Fortresses can suit weddings in hot weather because they catch the sea breeze, but extended outdoor dinners in midday sun require careful planning.
Late June and September offer better weather for all-day outdoor events, more manageable crowds, and easier access to the city for guests.
Are there venues near Dubrovnik that are easier to plan than the Old Town spaces?
For many couples, these venues are the better choice. Višnjica, Villa Banac, Konavle Valley estates and Cavtat hotels offer the Dubrovnik region without the permitting complexity of heritage sites. They allow greater flexibility around catering, music, timing and guest numbers.
We recommend them when they better suit the wedding than the fortress venues. Old Town venues are distinctive, but they are not suitable for every couple or celebration.
How do weddings on Lokrum Island or the Elafiti Islands work logistically?
Island weddings require more planning than mainland venues, but are manageable with prior experience. For Lokrum, all event supplies — catering, furniture, bar equipment and décor — arrive by private boat before the wedding and are removed the same evening. Guest transfers are coordinated by boat in groups from the Old Harbour.
For the Elafiti Islands, Koločep and Lopud, we use private charter boats instead of scheduled ferries for the wedding party and main guest groups. Weather contingency is included in every island wedding plan: the Adriatic is generally reliable in summer, but storms remain possible.
